Mike Keizer is a Town Councillor for the Town of Fort Smith and is currently serving as Deputy Mayor. Over his career as a middle manager in Parks Canada he was responsible for human resources management, visitor experiences in Wood Buffalo National Park, tourism development in the Southern NWT, educational school programs, and communications. In this capacity he has served on the Fort Smith Economic Development Advisory Board, the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Territories Tourism, the Northern Alberta Tourism Marketing Board, worked with Travel Alberta to develop northern awareness and products and served on the Northern Life Museum and Cultural Centre Board of Fort Smith. During his time with Parks Canada, he was also a Fire Information Officer as that role was being established and developed in the fire management structure. In this role he worked closely with Indigenous governments and communities in the southern NWT during major events. He is enjoying the role of politics and advocacy and hopes to draw on his past knowledge and experiences to support NWT communities’ health and growth.
